Metal Ions in Life and Health: From Chemistry to Medicine (HEALTHMET = Metals for Health)
Ioannina Greece, 30 August-5 September 2026Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Program “Metal Ions in Life and Health: From Chemistry to Medicine” aims to provide a multidimensional training experience for postgraduate and advanced undergraduate students in the principles and applications of Biological Inorganic Chemistry, Biophysical Pharmacology, and Molecular Biochemistry. The program bridges fundamental chemical knowledge with modern medical and biotechnological applications, highlighting the role of metal ions as essential biological regulators and therapeutic agents. The main scientific objective is to emphasize the role of metal ions in life and health—both as essential trace elements and as key structural or pharmacological components in innovative therapeutic approaches. Participants will also be introduced to biophysical and computational methods for understanding drug action, as well as to advanced topics in biochemistry, peptide chemistry, and cell biology for analyzing biomolecular interactions
